THE two teams playing the Von Trapp children in Harrogate Operatic Players’ forthcoming production of The Sound Of Music had a wonderful surprise recently.

They were thrilled to meet Lesley Garrett at Harrogate Theatre, when she joined them for “Tea, a drink with jam and bread” before her own show at the theatre that night!

Lesley, who famously played the Mother Abbess in the West End Production of The Sound of Music wanted to wish the Players and all the children all the very best for their production of The Sound Of Music.

She said she would be thinking of them when they Climb Every Mountain, and imagine their Favourite Things when the Harrogate Operatic Players present the show at Harrogate Theatre from Tuesday, March 20 to Saturday, March 24.

The final musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, the original stage production made its Broadway debut on 1959 and has since been revived regularly.

Based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, it also spawned the famous Oscar-winning movie starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.

In 2006, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber produced his own revival at the London Palladium after casting the role of Maria through a UK-wide talent search on the BBC reality show called How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?
