STUDENTS have been making a drama out of their examinations as they prepare for a performance of lifetime.

GSCE drama students from Northallerton College have been working for months on plays that count towards their final exams.

Friends and families got the chance to view their work at a special preview held on Monday, May 1.

Then the 50 students had to perform in front of official examiners who marked them on their dramatic performances.

Head of drama Neil Stimson said: “It is an intense experience for them. It is difficult because they are in front of examiners but it is a brilliant way to showcase their talents.

“Using the theme ‘everything is a story that needs to be told’, the students have developed their own short dramas ranging in time from 15 to 30 minutes.

“They have written the scripts, been involved in set design and lighting and sorted out the costumes and props.

“They have all worked really hard to make sure it flows.”

Pieces range from comedy to drama, mystery to war-time genres and are said to be challenging and hard-hitting.

Student Jasmine Cerrato, 16, of Northallerton, joined four colleagues in a mystery drama which saw the young actors stuck in a room until they told ‘the truth’.

She said: “It is nerve-racking but it is amazing how much it boosts your confidence. I would like to be a singer one day and this is really helping.”
