Councils join for Jubilee
Thirsk town centre will the focal point for a number of Jubilee events later this year.
Thirsk Town Council and Sowerby Parish Council are working together to co-ordinate arrangements in the Thirsk and Sowerby area for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The aim is to give everyone in Thirsk and Sowerby the opportunity to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.
The two groups will be co-ordinating local events around the national events taking place such as the River Pageant and the concert from Buckingham Palace.
Organisations including Rotary, Probus, Round Table, scouts and churches are involved.
Proposed events include an East Thirsk Community Hall day party on Coronation Day, Saturday, June with an evening barbecue.
On Monday, June 4 there will be a Bank Holiday market in Thirsk. with Sowerby Jubilee Gala in the afternoon. This will include the unveiling of the restored Queen Victoria Golden Jubilee plaque and new Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee plaque.
In the evening the national chain beacon to be lit at Yorkshire Gliding Club at Sutton Bank.
On Tuesday, June 5 a pop concert is planned in Thirsk market place.
