EIGHT young lifesavers made a splash in a national competition recently.

The youngsters, representing Hambleton in the National Lifesaving Championships, are part of the weekly Rookie Lifesaving group which meets at Bedale Leisure Centre.

The group competed in pairs against other teams from across the north east in a series of four tests: water-based initiative test, land-based initiative test, line throw and swim-and-tow.

In the lead up to the competition, the group undertook a specialised training plan which paid off, as they took third, fourth, eighth and nineth place.

Hambleton District Councillor, Peter Wilkinson, member for health, who watched the group in training at Bedale Leisure Centre said: “The work taking place in Bedale and the successes they are enjoying highlights the excellent opportunities available in our district.”
