AFTER 18 months of fundraising, two Explorer Scouts from Northallerton headed off to the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden.

Emma Linthwaite, 16, and Amy Wright, 17, were selected to represent Northallerton District within the North Yorkshire contingent heading to Rinkaby, near Kristianstad, for the two-week event.

They joined 39,000 Scouts from 150 countries around the world.

“We are very grateful to everyone who has helped us to raise the £2,000 we each needed to participate in the jamboree,” said Emma, who will be going to sixth form at Thirsk School in September.

The scouts were seen off by Reg and Mary Mitchell, chairman and secretary of Northallerton Scout and Guide Gang Show, which contributed the girls’ deposits
