'Dad's Army' is one of Mr Les Taylor's favourite television programmes and his experiences as a young man in the Kirkby Malzeard Home Guard were featured in an amusing talk to the club last week. Incidents involving Masham Home Guard were described in revealing detail with further anecdotes centred on areas such as learning morse code at Hugh Ripley Hall, discussions about Second World War threats to Bedern Bank and the cathedral, security work at Melmerby, painting and decorating together with enjoyable days as a postman when Mr Potter was head postmaster.
High spots on the club holiday to Bruges last week included the ride on Eurostar, the boat trip on the canals and the magnificent buildings.
The St George's Eve dinner is to be held next Tuesday at the Ripon Masonic Lodge Rooms, Water Skellgate at 7.30pm for 8pm.
