Moorings to become homes at marina
Boat owners in Ripon will get to live on the marina permanently.
Moorings at Ripon’s racecourse marina have been given the green light to become the site of permanent barge homes.
Councillors voted unanimously in favour of the application by British Waterways Marinas Ltd to change the use of 18 moorings at the site to form full residential mooring status.
Councillors also approved plans to build a cycle store at the marina site on Boroughbridge Road.
The change of use would allow boat owners to live on the moorings permanently, making their boats their permanent homes.
Ripon city and North Yorkshire County Coun Bernard Bateman – who sits on the county council planning committee and voted for the motion at a meeting on February 12 – said he is delighted with the outcome.
He told the Gazette: “It is an excellent result. This development will give the economy another boost as extra people will be living within the area.”
The proposal will be given final approval once conditions limiting the residential moorings to a maximum of 18 and also restricting the cycle shelter to a dark-green colour are put in place.
