Fund for PC killed in line of duty hits £14K

A fund for the children of PC Andrew Bramma has already raised more than £14,000 – less than a month after being launched.

Harrogate PC Andrew Bramma was killed on January 5 when his police van left the road and struck a tree in West Tanfield, near Ripon, while answering an emergency call in Masham.

The constable left behind two young sons, Jack, three, and Sam – whose first birthday is this month – and his wife, Kathryn.

North Yorkshire Police (NYC) said Mrs Bramma was overwhelmed by the level of support.

Sgt Mike Stubbs, of North Yorkshire Police Federation, said: “We have been unable to acknowledge many of the donations. Some have been made direct to the fund’s bank account. Others have simply arrived as cheques with messages of condolence but no address. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has donated so far.”

Sgt Stubbs said: “Andrew’s colleagues at Harrogate and Ripon police stations have held cake sales which have raised almost £1,000.Other colleagues in both NYP and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are also looking at other fundraising ideas.”

Classic rock band Under Fire will perform a concert in aid of the fund at Stanningley Rugby Club near Leeds where Andrew used to play, on Saturday, February 16.

The 32-year-old constable, who was originally from Yorkshire, had served as a beat officer with GMP since 2008 and transferred back to his home county only four months ago. His name has now been added to the national police roll of honour.

PC Bramma died when answering a 999 call on Saturday, January 5.
