KAMAMICA will be making all the right moves this month when they perform the hit musical 'Chess' in Harrogate Theatre's Studio.
This year is the 25th anniversary for the musical and there will be a celebation concert version this month in London’s Royal Albert Hall to mark the special occasion.

One of the first amateur groups in the UK to be given a licence when they performed in the main house at Harrogate Theatre in 1994, Kamamica have since performed it in 1999 in the Sun Pavilion in the Valley Gardens, and also in 2004, in Harrogate Theatre Studio.

Written by Tim Rice and with music by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus (Abba), Chess develops the story of the ancient game of chess into a metaphor for romantic rivalries and east/west political intrigue. A rich musical score includes songs such as One Night In Bangkok, Anthem and I Know Him So Well.

This month’s performance will be followed by performances in The Playhouse, Pateley Bridge from June 5 to 7 and a performance in Otley.

“It’s our favourite show,” said director Kath Lunn. “We have travelled all over the country to see different productions and needless to say, we are attending the 25th anniversary performance at the Royal Albert Hall.”

Showing from May 22 to 24 with performances starting at 7.45pm, tickets priced £8 and £7 are available from Harrogate Theatre box office on 01423 502116.
